Corrosion Records newsletter #4 - 03/11/06
The Featured 4(this shipment): Various Artists - Hymns of Steel - $12.99 Electronic Body Music is back! And this amazing compilation is the proof! In every club you can hear the new EBM sounds mingled with those from two decades ago. To highlight this wave Machineries of Joy, already known too many as the ultimate EBM platform and sub label to the remarkable COP Intl., releases an album holding today's best EBM bands. The focus was mainly on honest EBM music and not on big names or on tracks that you would find anywhere. Hymns of Steel holds 18 tracks about dirt, sweat, work, oil and above all about one of the favorite themes of EBM bands: Steel/Stahl! Mesh - Crash - $9.99 The first single lifted from the long awaited Brand New album "We Collide" - Mesh return with "Crash", a typically infectious slice of dark-edged dancefloor electro-pop from the masters of the genre. Fresh, pumping, perfectly produced and incessantly melodic this six track Maxi includes three versions of the title track alongside the non-album tracks "Soul" and "Into This World" plus the videoclip for "Crash". Covenant - Skyshaper - $13.99 The most anticipated electro pop album for 2006 has arrived! Covenant’s brand new studio album Skyshaper is a towering inferno set to put dance floors on fire! From the infectious beats of “Ritual Noise” and “Brave New World” to the electro-clash infused “Pulse” and “Happy Man” to the quiet beauty of “The World is Growing Loud,” Covenant has once again created an album of monumental proportions free of any filler. Creating Skyshaper was a labor of love for the band. By spending months locked inside of a studio without any distractions, Covenant gave the creative process their full attention and fans will not be disappointed. Backlash - Heliotrope- $16.99 Backlash return with a new singer and new album ! ''Heliotrope'' blends danceable electro-pop with complex soundscapes and beats together with great refrains and extremely catchy melodies. Tonight! THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE - Tues Feb 28th @Hawthorne Theatre Tonight! Formed in 2000 under the name Imagica, the band played their first show at Diversity Nightclub in London, Ontario, Canada. Their original lineup consisted of Chibi (vocals), Rainbow (rhythm guitar), Michael Falcore (lead guitar), Aslan (bass guitar), and Dank (keyboards). With this lineup, plus the addition of OE on percussion, they released a seven song demo EP in very limited edition. In 2001, the band relocated from London to Toronto, Ontario and changed their name from Imagica to The Birthday Massacre. In July of 2002, they self released the limited edition CD Nothing and Nowhere and added a new drummer, Rhim. Two years later, they followed up with the EP, Violet. With a growing fan base on the internet and in their city of Toronto, their confidence was shown onstage with extreme energy and highly entertaining performances. 2005 became a big year for The Birthday Massacre. Not only did they add O-En on keyboards, but were signed in Europe by Repo Records and in North America by Metropolis Records. Both labels plan to re-release Violet as a full length album with four extra tracks. Having time to mature their patent sound, the band are confident that the extended commercial release of Violet will draw in many new fans while maintaining the same appeal for listeners who were introduced to the band's debut album. A video for their song "Blue" will be launched later this year, which is produced by NYC artist and director Daniel Ouellette. The Birthday Massacre has a knack for mixing themes of horror and tragedy with fun and satire to create a unique and versatile sound. *Tonight!* Saturday December 10th 2005 Dementia: A saturday night with a different Dj line-up each time. Playing the oldest and newest in Industrial, EBM, Synthpop, Goth, Darkwave, Noise, & some 80's. every saturday! Tonight is also a release party for Scanalyzer "On The One And The Zero". this is what the album is about: Scanalyzer is the bastard love child of Sister Machine Gun's Chris Randall and Wade Alin of Atomica and Christ Analogue. Their debut album, On The One And The Zero, is a tour-de-force of glitch-hop, noisecore, and IDM, with a generous dose of dancefloor groove thrown in to complete the mix. The tension of the album is palpable as Randall and Alin go to great lengths to out- do each other via complicated drum-noise programming and grinding synthesizers. This album is not to be missed if you're a fan of esoteric electronica. Positron! Records will be vending at this event as well, it will features releases like Sister Machine Gun cds as well as a slew of other items including S.Sturgis which is the mastermind behind Converter/Pain Station. In 1997 Grendel was formed although this was not the band's original name. It wasn't until the band as it was known split up that the remaining members decided to change the name. “Grendel” was a beast in the classic mythological story of “Beowulf” that would lure people from villages and drown them in marshes. The new name and line up helped to create a unique aura for the band that attracted thousands of fans across Europe. In 2000 Grendel released their first promo CD which included the song “Strangers,” a club hit in the Netherlands. As the promo got more air play, it gained momentum and ultimately scored popularity in Germany, Belgium and Spain. Eventually many fans became anxious to see the band live and after many requests, [FLRS] (live synthesis and engineering) joined the band. Only six months later, the band released its first demo CD entitled Inhumane Amusement which caused the German record label NoiTekk to sign the band almost immediately. After being signed, Inhumane Amusement was re-mastered, re-designed and combined with new material. The new version of the album was released in 2000 as the band's debut release. In 2002 Grendel released the End of Ages EP which became an international hit. The release included remixes by Feindflug, Arzt+Pfusch and God Module which proved to be an innovative venture for the band with the use of obscure samples over harsh and pounding EBM arrangements. Grendel's third album entitled Prescription : Medicide, was originally released in Europe in 2003, and shortly after [FLRS] departed from the band. He was replaced by [4N1T4] who now performs with the band on stage. Prescription : Medicide was released in North America by Metropolis Records in 2004. The album featured ten tracks that included the use of orchestral sounds over deep layers of electronic beats that demonstrated the mysteriousness and corrosiveness that is Grendel. After releasing their North American debut album Prescription:Medicide last year, Grendel is set to unleash their newest onslaught, the Soilbleed EP. Featuring five new tracks and two remixes, Soilbleed continues Grendel's reign of terror with crunching bass-lines, eerie melodies, raspy vocals and beats that could bring the dead back to life. Grendel is quickly making a name for itself and will soon join the ranks of Wumpscut, Hocico and Suicide Commando in cult status. Tabor 4811 SE Hawthorne Portland, Oregon Write up on Death In June show by the Willamette Week: Without the teacup tempest of its last Portland appearance-when brooding fascist-slash-Barbie fanatic Boyd Rice was booted from the opening slot for his political insensitivities-Death in June should be able to strum its schadenfreude folk songs and classically inflated ambient chants to a fully undistracted audience of admirers. As always, Douglas Pearce's voice, flat and deep and weighted by a doomy weltanschauung, leads the procession to the End Times. Waldteufel won't freak out lefties like Boyd Rice does, but author-artist-percussionist-pagan Markus Wolff's tribalism is infected with plenty of Eurocentric eccentricities for those who favor Saxo-Scandinavian cultures gone by. Alfa Matrix teamed up with this dangerous creature of the night to release her new album. Beware: our sexy she-devil shouts louder than any industrial animal on the scene! It’s not for nothing that UNTER NULL is more and more often described as the female replica to the SUICIDE COMMANDO league! Her extremely distorted and manipulated vocals will definitely blow your mind. Musically, UNTER NULL delivers uncompromised harsh elektro assaults with a touch of power noise and ambient industrial.
